USE AND INSTALLATION

This category covers leakage-rated door assemblies, which consist of combinations of the following individual component products: door, frame, hardware, gasketing and other door accessories. The door assemblies covered under this category are certified for use with other certified component products.

Leakage-rated door assemblies are intended for installation in accordance with ANSI/NFPA 105 (2007), "Installation of Smoke Door Assemblies and Other Opening Protectives," and the installation instructions provided with each leakage-labeled component product. The products are intended primarily for field installation in accordance with installation instructions packaged with the leakage-labeled components, but may be factory assembled. Information concerning the specific air-leakage rating, mounting locations, installation clearances, and the like is provided in the detailed installation instructions accompanying each leakage-labeled component product.

Leakage ratings for door assemblies are determined at ambient air temperature (75°F) and/or elevated air temperature 400°F and at three air pressure differentials: 0.10 in. WC (25.0 Pa), 0.20 in. WC (50.0 Pa) and 0.30 in. WC (75.0 Pa) as specified in ANSI/NFPA 105 (2007).

Codes such as the "International Building Code" (2006) and ANSI/NFPA 101 (2006), "Life Safety Code," include leakage-performance requirements for door assemblies in corridors and smoke barriers. The leakage-performance requirements may be based upon an artificial bottom seal installed across the full width of the bottom of the door assembly during the conduct of the leakage test. The use of an artificial bottom seal during the leakage test, if permitted, is specified in the code.

REQUIREMENTS

The basic standard used to investigate products in this category is ANSI/UL 1784, "Air Leakage Tests of Door Assemblies."

UL MARK

The Certification Mark of UL on the product is the only method provided by UL to identify products manufactured under its Certification and Follow-Up Service. The Certification Mark for these products includes the UL symbol, the words "CERTIFIED" and "SAFETY," the geographic identifier(s), and a file number.

Additional Certification Markings

Products covered under this category are additionally marked with the following information:

AS TO LEAKAGE RESISTANCE
SEE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR SPECIFIC LEAKAGE RATE
Other components in the leakage-rated door assembly bear the UL Certification Mark and applicable product identity.

Alternate UL Mark

The Classification Mark of UL on the product is the only method provided by UL to identify products manufactured under its Classification and Follow-Up Service. The Classification Mark for these products includes the UL symbol, the word "CLASSIFIED" above the UL symbol (as illustrated in the Introduction of this Directory), and the following additional information:
