GENERAL

This category covers automatic flush and surface bolt assemblies intended to secure the inactive door of swinging fire doors mounted in pairs, with the active door provided with a certified single-point latch.

The bolt assemblies have been investigated for fire protection for a period of 3 h on doors mounted in pairs not exceeding 8 ft in either dimension. For certifications of assemblies investigated for both fire protection and panic features, see Fire-exit Hardware (GXHX). For certifications of panic hardware (for doors other than fire doors), see Panic Hardware (FVSR). For certifications of self-latching flush and surface bolts, see Flush and Surface Bolts, Self-latching Type (GXVV), and for certifications of manual flush and surface bolts, see Flush and Surface Bolts, Manual Type (GXSR).

All products in this category comply with the positive-pressure requirements in ANSI/UL 10C, "Positive Pressure Fire Tests of Door Assemblies."

These assemblies consist of individual self-latching top and bottom flush bolt units actuated by a trigger mechanism. In addition to the self-latching feature, these bolts also incorporate an auxiliary automatic unlatching feature whereby when the active door is opened, the inactive door opens by pushing on that door. The assemblies also include the necessary strikes, mounting screws, and installation instructions. A coordinator may be provided.

Authorities Having Jurisdiction should be consulted before installation.

REQUIREMENTS

The basic standard used to investigate products in this category is ANSI/UL 10C, "Positive Pressure Fire Tests of Door Assemblies."

UL MARK

The Certification Mark of UL on the product is the only method provided by UL to identify products manufactured under its Certification and Follow-Up Service. The Certification Mark for these products includes the UL symbol, the words "CERTIFIED" and "SAFETY," the geographic identifier(s), and a file number.

Additional Certification Markings

Products may be marked with any applicable qualifications to the product hourly rating.

The UL symbol, the letter "F," and any qualifications to the product hourly rating are cast or stamped on the exposed surface if the entire Certification Mark is not visible after installation of the product.

Alternate UL Mark

The Listing Mark of UL on the product is the only method provided by UL to identify products manufactured under its Listing and Follow-Up Service. The Listing Mark for these products includes the UL symbol (as illustrated in the Introduction of this Directory) together with the word "LISTED," a control number, the product name "Hardware - Automatic Flush or Surface Bolt," and any qualifications to the product hourly rating. In addition, the UL symbol, the letter "F," and any qualifications to the product hourly rating are cast or stamped on the exposed surface if the whole Listing Mark is not visible after installation of the product.

UL had previously authorized the use of the letter "f" to denote products that comply with the positive-pressure-test requirements from those that complied only with the neutral-pressure test in ANSI/UL 10B. All products in this category now comply with the positive-pressure requirements of ANSI/UL 10C. The use of the small letter "f" is no longer required for products in this category. Some manufacturers re-tooled their dies and may be marking their products with both an uppercase "F" and lowercase "f."
