USE AND INSTALLATION

This category covers passenger elevator fire doors of the single-swing or sliding hollow-metal type. The sliding-door panels may be used in single-slide assemblies of the one-, two-, or three-speed type, or they may be used in center-parting assemblies of the one- or two-speed type.

The sliding door panels are intended to be installed with certified hardware consisting of hangers, a track, a header, a sill, a closer, and retaining clips as indicated in the individual hardware certifications; see Passenger Elevator Door Hardware (GZKZ).

The swinging door panels are intended to be installed with a sill, hinges, a certified frame, a certified latching device and a certified closing device; see Fire Door and fire Window Frames (GVTV), Single-point Locks and Latches (GYJT) and Swinging Fire Door Closers (GVEV). Doors are intended to be provided with hinges or pivots in accordance with ANSI/NFPA 80, "Fire Doors and Other Opening Protectives."

When acceptable to the Authority Having Jurisdiction, certified passenger elevator fire doors may be installed with certified passenger elevator door hardware, in an oversize passenger elevator fire door frame assembly furnished with a Certificate of Inspection; see Fire Door and Fire Window Frames (GVTV).

Hoistway doors for elevators are intended to be installed in accordance with ANSI/NFPA 80 and ANSI/ASME A17.1, "Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators."

Authorities Having Jurisdiction should be consulted before installation.

Each door panel bears a "Passenger Elevator Fire Door" Classification Mark with the following rating: 1-1/2 h with temperature rise - 30 min - 650 F max, 1-1/2 h, 1 h or 3/4 h with no reference to temperature rise. The Classification Mark covers the design and construction of the door or door panels only.
