USE AND INSTALLATION

This category covers retrofit parts for freight elevator fire doors of the single-swing or counter-balanced type. The parts are for assemblies which consist of either formed steel sheets, hollow-metal, or metal-covered wood units and other parts which may consist of guides, latching device, and counter-balance mechanism.

Freight elevator doors and their retrofit parts are intended to be installed in concrete and masonry walls, unless otherwise noted in the individual certifications.

For installation of hoistway doors for elevators, see ANSI/NFPA 80, "Fire Doors and Other Opening Protectives," and ANSI/ASME A17.1, "Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators."

Each retrofit part is provided with installation instructions identifying its limits of installation.

The basic standard used to investigate products in this category is ANSI/UL 10B, "Fire Tests of Door Assemblies."
