Fire Door Assemblies and Fire Window Assemblies, GSNN

Guide Information for Fire Resistance Ratings

GENERAL

This category covers fire door assemblies and fire window assemblies certified for fire-protection ratings. These assemblies include construction features that are more complex than those typically associated with traditional fire doors and glazing installed in fire door and fire window frames.

The assemblies are identified by an alphanumeric numbering system. The format of the numbering system is: Opening Protective No. AA-#-### where:

"AA" represents the type of opening protective
"#" represents the wall type in which the opening protective is installed
"###" is a sequential number for identification purposes

The following letters represent specific types of opening protectives:

AC - Access doors
BR - Bullet-resisting-type fire door assemblies
CH - Chute-type fire door assemblies
CU - Curtain-type fire door assemblies
DW - Dumbwaiter-type fire door assemblies
FE - Freight elevator fire door assemblies
PE - Passenger elevator fire door assemblies
RS - Rolling steel fire door assemblies
SC - Service-counter-type fire door assemblies
SL - Sliding-type fire door assemblies
SA - Special-purpose-type fire door assemblies
SN - Swinging-type fire door assemblies (ANSI/UL 10B, "Fire Tests of Door Assemblies")
SP - Swinging-type fire door assemblies (ANSI/UL 10C, "Positive Pressure Fire Tests of Door Assemblies")
WA - Window assemblies

The following numbers represent the specific types of assemblies in which the opening protectives are intended to be installed:

1 - Masonry walls
2 - Nonmasonry walls
3 - Either masonry or nonmasonry walls

These assemblies are designed for the protection of openings in walls and partitions against fire when installed in accordance with ANSI/NFPA 80, "Fire Doors and Other Opening Protectives."

Authorities Having Jurisdiction should be consulted as to the particular requirements covering the installation and the use of the opening protectives.

RELATED PRODUCTS

The following categories cover products related to fire doors and frames. Refer to the Guide Information for each category for details.

Fire Doors

For information on fire doors investigated for fire-protection ratings, see Fire Doors (GSNV). These products have been investigated to ANSI/UL 10B, "Fire Tests of Door Assemblies," and/or ANSI/UL 10C, "Positive Pressure Fire Tests of Door Assemblies."

Fire Door and Window Frames

For information on fire door frames, fire window frames, and 20-minute-type door frames or window frames fire tested without hose stream investigated for fire-protection-ratings, see Fire Door and Window Frames (GVTV). These products have been investigated to ANSI/UL 9, "Fire Tests of Window Assemblies,"ANSI/UL 10B, ANSI/UL 10C and/or UL Subject 63, "Outline of Investigation for Fire Door Frames."

Fire Door Accessories

For information on fire door accessories intended for installation with certified fire doors and/or fire door frames, see Fire Door Accessories (GVUW). These products have been investigated to ANSI/UL 10B and/or ANSI/UL 10C to verify that they do not adversely affect the fire performance of the certified fire door and/or fire door frame.

Fire Door Closers, Holders and Operators

For information on fire door closers, holders and operators intended for use with fire doors, see Fire Door Closers, Holders and Operators (GTBT). These products have been investigated in to ANSI/UL 10B, ANSI/UL 10C, UL 228, "Door Closers-Holders, With or Without Integral Smoke Detectors," and/or ANSI/UL 325, "Door, Drapery, Gate, Louver, and Window Operators and Systems."
