Nonbearing Wall Rating — 1 Hr, 1-1/2 Hr or 2 Hr (See Items 4 and 5)

    1. Floor And Ceiling Runners — Channel-shaped runners, 4 in. wide by 1-1/4 in. deep, fabricated from No. 20 MSG galv steel. Attached to floor and ceiling with fasteners spaced 24 in. O.C.
    2. Steel Studs (Vertical Framing) — Channel-shaped, 4 in. wide by 1-1/4 in. deep with 5/16 in. folded back return flanges, fabricated from No. 20 MSG galv steel. Studs screwed to runners with 1/2 in. long, Phillips panhead, self-drilling/tapping steel screws through each leg of stud. Studs spaced 24 in. O.C. Short studs or "cripples" are used to support the horizontal framing. These are also spaced 24 in. O.C. with additional cripples employed at the ends of the horizontal framing, back to back with the full length steel stud. These end cripples are secured to the studs with two 1/2 in. long Phillips, bugle-head self-drilling/tapping steel screws, spaced 2 in. O.C. vertically.
    3. Steel Runners (Horizontal Framing) — Channel-shaped, 4 in. wide by 1-1/4 in. deep, fabricated from No. 20 MSG galv steel. Secured to vertical framing (cripples) with 1/2 in. long, Phillips panhead, self-drilling/tapping steel screws through each leg of runner.
    4. Gypsum Board* — Any 1/2 in. thick UL Classified Gypsum Board that is eligible for use in Design No. X515. Any 5/8 in. thick UL Classified Gypsum Board that is eligible for use in Design Nos. L501, G512 or U305.

    1 Hr Rating — Two layers min, 1/2 in. thick min, or single layer 5/8 in. thick, min., 4 ft wide. Inner layer or single layer attached to studs and runners with 1 in. long, Phillips bugle-head self-drilling/tapping steel screws, 12 in. O.C. vertically and horizontally. Additional screws located 3/8 in. from wallboard edges. Outer layer attached to studs and runners with 1-5/8 in. long, Phillips bugle-head, self-drilling/tapping steel screws, 12 in. O.C. vertically and horizontally. Additional screws located 3/8 in. from wallboard edges. Joints of outer layer staggered from those of inner layer 6 in.

    1-1/2 and 2 Hr Rating — Two layers min, nom 5/8 in. thick, 4 ft wide by 10 ft long, cut to size and shaved on edges. Wallboard boxed around stud and runner framing members. Inner layer secured to framing members with 1-1/4 in. long S12 bugle head drywall screws (screws not shown). Drywall fastened with 1 screw on each leg and 2 screws on each face, spaced 16 in. OC. Outer layer secured to framing members with 1-5/8 in. long S12 bugle head drywall screws same as base layer, spaced 8 in. OC.

    5. Fire Resistant Glazing Materials* —

    For 1 hr. assemblies — Nominal 1-1/16 in. (27 mm) or 1.57 in. (40 mm) thick panels, supplied in various sizes. Max area per panel not to exceed 28 ft2 with max dimension of 7 ft. Total aggregate area not to exceed 72 ft2 /100 ft2 of wall area. Installed in accordance with directions below with no less than 8 in. separation between adjacent glazing materials unless Swissflam Structure 60, Swissflam Structure ULTIMAX 60, Contraflam Structure 60 or Contraflam Structure ULTIMAX 60 is used. Not for exterior exposures. When Swissflam Structure 60 with a 31 mm nominal thickness or Swissflam Structure ULTIMAX 60 with a 33.5 mm nominal thickness is used, the exposed height of glass is not to exceed 94-5/8 in. but the overall width can be greater than 94-13/16 in. due to the joint feature incorporated into the Swissflam Structure product. When Contraflam Structure 60 with a 31 mm nominal thickness or Contraflam Structure ULTIMAX 60 with a 36 mm nominal thickness is used, the maximum exposed area per panel is not to exceed 52.6 ft2 and the exposed height of the glass is not to exceed 138-1/2 in. The overall width for the glazing can be greater than 94-13/16 in. due to the joint incorporated into the Contraflam Structure 60 or Contraflam Structure ULTIMAX 60. Swissflam or Contraflam Structure 60 can be manufactured with a mitered joint to allow up to a 19 Degree angle to be formed between the glazing unit and the vertical plane to create a corner or bowed assembly.

    For 2 hr. assemblies - Nominal 1-9/16 in. (39 mm) thick panels supplied in various sizes. Maximum exposed glazing area per panel not to exceed 30.8 ft2 with max exposed glazing dimension of 94-5/8 in. No less than 8 in. separation between openings. When Contraflam Structure 120 with a 2-1/16 in. (52 mm) nominal thickness or Contraflam Structure ULTIMAX 120 with a 2-1/4 in. (57 mm) nominal thickness is used, the maximum exposed area per panel is not to exceed 31.9 ft2 and the exposed height of the glass is not to exceed 126 in. The overall width for the glazing can be greater than 94-5/8 in. due to the joint incorporated into the Contraflam Structure 120 or Contraflam Structure ULTIMAX 120. Contraflam Structure 120 or Contraflam Structure ULTIMAX 120 can be manufactured with a mitered joint to allow up to a 19 Degree angle to be formed between the glazing unit and the vertical plate to create a corner or bowed assembly.

    6. Glazing Member (Closed Cell PVC Tape) — Nom 1/2in. wide by 1/8 in. tall closed cell PVC tape, supplied in rolls, with a self-adhering backing. Applied to legs of glazing stops in contact with the glazing material. Face of leg to be entirely covered with tape.
    7. Glazing Member (Fixed Glazing Stops) — Steel angles 3/4 in. (19 mm) by 3/4 in. (19 mm), Fabricated from No. 16 MSG galv steel. The angles are provided with a 45 deg mitre at each end. Fastened to steel studs and horizontal framing, through wallboard, with 2 in. long Phillips bugle-head self-drilling/tapping steel screws spaced 6 in. O.C. Before installation, legs in contact with glazing material are to be prepared as described under Item 6 above.
    8. Glazing Member (Setting Blocks) — Gypsum wallboard shims, nom 1-1/2 in. long, 3/16 in. thick. The length is determined by width of glazing material, which should be identical. Min. two blocks placed, without attachment, on sill only prior to placement of the glazing materials.
    9. Glazing Member (Insulative Packing) — (Not Shown) — Mineral wool batts, nom 6.0 lb per cu ft. Stuffed to tightly fill all gaps between the glazing stops and glazing materials, about entire perimeter of glazing material.
    10. Glazing Member (Gypsum Board*) — Two layers of 1/2 in. thick gypsum wallboard fastened to the glazing stops, Item 7. Gypsum wallboard fastened to glazing stops with 1-5/8 in. long Type G screws., spaced 8 in. OC. Gypsum wall board to cover all exposed surfaces of the glazing stop.

    Any UL Classified Gypsum Board that is eligible for use in Design No. X515. See Gypsum Board (CKNX) category for names of Classified companies.

    11. Glazing Member (Sealant) — Silicone rubber sealant, cartridge type. A 1/4 in. bead applied at all glazing material/insulation block joints.
    12. Joint Tape And Compound (Not Shown) — Dry or premixed joint compound, applied in two coats over joints and screw heads. Perforated paper tape, 2 in. wide, embedded in first layer of compound over joints.
